In Urb news, Law professors are backing Prop 19 according to (rollitup.org)
October 18, 2010 – A letter from eight local law professors endorsing Proposition 19 was posted on Tax and Control Cannabis 2010’s website last week. They are a group of legal educators from universities such as Georgetown, George Washington, American, and George Mason.
Proposition 19 will have its final verdict on the November ballot and the law professors wrote the open letter to “encourage a wholesale rethinking of marijuana policy in the country”. They said that the present policies on marijuana are bankrupt and needing thorough analysis. They further added that the country’s ineffective policies on marijuana usage have left the trade to the unregulated and increasingly violent black market. The law professors stressed that despite the marijuana prohibitions, many teens reported that it’s still easy for them to buy across the country. These prohibitions, according to them, “have clogged California’s courts alone with tens of thousands of non-violent marijuana offenders each year. They stressed that the state of California should show leadership by restoring respect for the law by enacting Proposition 19 this November.
